Protaras is one of the most popular destination to visit during the summer months in Cyprus. This area is filled with locals as well as tourists due to its beautiful scenery, peaceful beaches and entertainment. This area is located on the southeast coast of Cyprus and stretched for approximately 10km. The most popular areas in Protaras are Kapparis and Konnos. Here you will find a number of Blue Flag beaches with crystal clear waters and soft white sand that are ideal for sunbathing on in the summer months.
There are 2 beaches in the Protaras area that are renowned for their beauty; Fig Tree Bay and Kapparis beach. Fig tree Bay is named after the fig tree that was planted along the coastline in the 17th century and still there to this day. This beach has a variety of watersport activities to enjoy including paragliding and scuba diving. There are also many boat trips options for you to enjoy. Fig Tree Bay features as one of the best beaches in Europe according to TripAdvisor and is known as a Green Beach under the eco-initiative “Greening Cyprus Beaches”. The second beach we mentioned, Kapparis beach, is located on the north side of Protaras. It is a small beach in comparison to many others but is just as popular. You will find many locals as well as tourists here enjoying the fine golden sand and picturesque views. Kapparis beach is another location that has been accredited with Blue Flag status and also has many options for watersport activities.
If you prefer to explore the Protaras area rather than relax at the beach then we would suggest taking a trip to the Prophet Elias Chapel. This Byzantine type church was built in 1984 and set on a 100m high granite hill. You are able to see the whole of Protaras from this height and capture some stunning photographs. The chapel itself is also very charming especially during the evenings when it is lit by floodlights.
