Cyprus Travel Guide: Beaches
You are bound to find a beach no matter where you are venturing to in Cyprus. In this section, we will go through some of the most popular.
Beaches in Larnaca
Finikoudes is one of the most popular and well-known beaches in Larnaca. This is because it is located at the forefront of downtown Larnaca where you can find all the best restaurants, bars, and shops. Everything is accessible from this beach, which means you do not have to trek far in the summer heat for anything.
Finikoudes is a family-friendly beach where you can find various watersport activities to partake in, including scuba diving and windsurfing. But if you are looking to simply relax then Finikoudes has sunbeds across the whole beach for you to lounge on. There are plenty of places to settle down for the day, and the beach is filled with facilities, including changing rooms, showers, and toilets. And, further down Finikoudes there is Larnaca Medieval Castle, which you can explore.
If you want a beach in Larnaca that offers a wide variety of entertainment, then we suggest visiting Makenzy (Mackenzie) Beach. This beach has an abundance of coffee shops, beach bars, and restaurants. There are copious amounts of sun-loungers that are filled with tourists and locals sunbathing every day during summer. During the evening and through into the night, Makenzy beach turns into the go-to party place. The cosmopolitan beach offers luxury dining experiences, cocktails bars and a club-like atmosphere in some of the bars. This beach is also close to the airport in Larnaca so, you are able to watch planes taking-off and landing while sunbathing.
Beaches in Limassol
It would be a thorough Cyprus Travel Guide without mentioned the infamous Petra Tou Romiou. Also known as Aphrodite’s Rock, this slightly rocky beach is located in-between Limassol and Paphos. Petra Tou Romiou is a must-see destination in Cyprus because it has a historical and cultural significance. Legend has it that this is the destination where Aphrodite emerged out of the sea, and so, it is extra popular with couples as it has romantic connotations.
Beaches in Paphos
The last beach we are going to mention is Coral Bay. This beach has numerous breathtaking sea caves and rock formations to explore. Coral Bay is renowned for its soft and powdery, which is filled with tourists every summer. It’s the ideal location for sunbathing and enjoying a relaxing dip in the crystal-clear Mediterranean Sea. If you are looking for an idyllic recluse from noisy crowds, Coral Bay is the perfect location. Hotels and resorts also surround the beach so; if you plan on vacationing in Cyprus, this is the ideal getaway.
Villages to Explore
Lefkara
Every Cyprus travel guide should include the village of Lefkara as it is such a popular destination. The village is located in the mountainous region between Larnaca and Limassol. This picturesque village is known for its lace and embroidery craft as well as its traditional terracotta-roofed houses. You can wander around exploring the beautiful chapels and churches and visit the Museum of Traditional Embroidery and Silversmithing. The village is so popular with tourists that it is even said that Leonardo da Vinci visited Lefkara is the late 1400s.
Kalopanayiotis Village
The village of Kalopanayiotis is a must to add to this Cyprus Travel Guide. Located in the green valley of Setrachos river on the northern side of the Troodos Mountain Range, Kalopanayiotis dates back since the 11th century. There are several monasteries that you can explore here including Saint John Lampadistis Monastery.
